Guitar Teachers

 

Tom Cheek BA (Hons.), PGCE, has been working as a professional bassist and music educator since graduating at the University of Brighton with a 1st class honours degree in Music Performance in 2006. He toured with electronica outfit Blue States across Europe and in the USA, while the band were signed to XL Recordings, taking support slots with Groove Armada and Saint Etienne. He’s been lucky to play with many world-class musicians including Pete Ray Biggin (Level 42/Incognito) and Bill Bruford (Yes/Genesis), and currently performs regularly with busy Brighton band Oomphf.

He has worked for several music education organisations including Scottish Borders Council music service, Brighton Rock School, the Sussex based independent music service Guitar Clubs, and he joined East Sussex Music in 2019. Tom teaches all the instruments of the guitar family including electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitar, and teaches across a wide range of styles and techniques, and loves inspiring the next generation of young musicians.

 

Amaziah ‘Maz’ Davis is a bass player, trombone, sousaphone and helicon player with numerous bands playing blues, rock, funk, jazz funk, jazz, salsa, classical and Eastern European Gypsy Music. He has done session work for numerous artists including Coldplay and written, recorded and self released two albums under the band name MOOOSE (wwww.mooosefunk.com).

Maz has also been the bass player for the West End show ‘Soul Sister’ that toured the UK for a year. He is also a ‘brass’ player in Stomp continuation show ‘The Lost & Found Orchestra’ that has toured all over the world.

Maz is a ‘Live Performance Workshop’ tutor at BIMM in Brighton teaching both bass and trombone.

 

Maria Gibson

Maria studied for a Classical Guitar Degree at Conservatoire of Verona (Italy) nad gained her Qualified Teacher Status at Liceo Scientifico Sperimentale of Ivrea (Italy). She also has a Music Therapy Diploma from the School of Music Therapy of Castellamonte (Italy) and a Performance Diploma (Conservatoire of Verona Italy)

As a teacher, she has been a Music Coordinator in Primary Schools in Italy, taught classical guitar in Italy and the UK and a music therapist Consultant (Italy)

She is also a performer, playing with Duo MaLi, (Guitar and Violin), the Sussex Guitar Quartet and Duo Armonia (Guitar and flute)

Adam Thomas is an Electric, Acoustic and Bass guitar teacher who mainly specialises in Rock, Pop and other contemporary styles. He has performed as a part of multiple rock bands, jazz groups and within orchestras.

Music should be fun and exciting, and so music lessons should be no different. Adam does everything within his power to make his lessons as fun as possible, and tries to pass on his passion for the guitar to his students. It is his goal for music lessons through East Sussex Music to lead to a lifelong love for playing music.

Adam has a deep passion for all elements of music, from composition and improvisation to performance and recording. All of which he winds into his lessons to give his students the greatest understanding and appreciation for music.

He studied Popular Music at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, as well as Music Education and Performance at the Hertfordshire College of Music.

 

Chris Webber

Chris picked up the guitar at the age of 13, and has been a guitar tutor since 2011, joining the Music Service in 2015. He has taught students of all ages across the county in a number of schools and privately at his home studio. He specialises in Rock & Pop, often helping to put on band workshops throughout the year to encourage students of different disciplines to play together

Chris has been an active member of the Brighton music scene for the past 10 years. Having studied at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music for 3 years, he has since played with various bands and artists across the country. In the studio he has worked with No.1 hit producers, and has had airplay on the likes of BBC Radio 6 and Amazing Radio.
