Violin teacher Nicola Bates is now running the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 10 October 2021 for encore's Hardship Fund, providing bursaries for young musicians across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex. Having taken the reigns from Lisa de Simone, who is no longer able to run, Nicola is adding to her busy teaching schedule with getting outside to run and remains positive about her training schedule:
Nicola says "Since the lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic fitness has become a lifeline for me and I am now a qualified Personal Trainer (PT). Much like music, it helps me reconnect with the world and improves my mental wellbeing. Like Lisa, music and running has shown me that with determination, hard work, consistency and passion you can get far. Even as far as running a half marathon of 21k, at fairly short notice! I've not done a lot of running over the last year as I prefer lifting heavy weights, but I'm hoping determination and persistence will help me run the half marathon."
"I am delighted to raise funds for Encore to support young players. The joy of learning a musical instrument will help them develop strength, determination, passion and self-esteem, all good things in life! No one should live without music: that’s a daily mission I take seriously as a violinist and passionate music educator."
Nicola's target is to fund 50 lessons, so she needs to raise £38.46 for every mile (or £23.80 for every kilometre) she runs!
